The National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) is the main source of demographic, environmental, and socio-economic data and statistical information used for planning, policy formulation, and evidence-based decision-making. Uganda has conducted 6 Population and Housing Censuses since independence, at approximately 10-year intervals, with the latest census being in May 2024. The NPHC 2024 was undertaken under the theme ‘It matters to be counted’.
The National Population and Housing Census 2024 Final Report – Volume 1 was published on 31ST December 2024. The report provided insights into the country’s population size, population distribution by age group disaggregated by sex, and population up to the district/city level. Other information included the characteristics of the population, the dwellings they live in, and the household-based Agricultural activities.
